Used Records List

The Used Records & Small Defects section is now open at Vinyl Gourmet. As the name implies here you will find a selection of previously owned records, items we choose to present here based on the music quality, sound quality and sometimes rarity. But that's not all, as with any activity, we sometimes receive products with small defects, usually external aesthetic issues like crushed corners or split seams caused during shipping from our suppliers. Since these items are almost always free from any problems regarding playback and sound, we will make them available in this section as Used Records & Small Defects, at reduced prices.

The grading system described below doesn't really apply to items that are New With Small Defects, however we will use it to grade those items in an attempt to better describe their condition, but the grading levels description might not match because it was created to describe Used Records.

We grade the condition of all items visually, discs and covers, acording to this grading system:

Fair (F) < Good (G) < Very Good (VG) < Excellent (EX) < Near Mint (NM) < Mint (M)

Our Used Records grading is based on the Goldmine Grading System, with some variations and adjustments. This is what each grading means:

Mint (M) - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition and as new. It should look and play as if it was just bought new from a store.

Near Mint (NM) - Will be used for a record that appears like new but is known to have been played because the label has light spindle marks or because it has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played by them. Other than for these small details, it should look, feel and play almost as new, everything should be in great condition.

Excellent (EX) - The record shows some signs of having been played, such as very light surface lines and spindle marks, but it was clearly well cared for and there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing, but the spine must remain fully readable and no split seams are acceptable for this grade, also corners should not have any major damage.

Very Good (VG) - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. Items graded VG can show signs of small split seams on the top and bottom edges (these will always be mentioned in the description), but not on the spine.

Good (G) - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits on any of the edges, discoloration, sticker marks etc...

Fair (F) - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing. This is only of use as a collection filler or as a special object, it is still playable but not for true enjoyment.

For records which appear to fall between grades, (+) and (-) signs will be added to fine tune the grading.

In addition to the basic grading, any individual faults will be noted separately in the description such as if an otherwise Excellent cover has a name written on it, or if an insert is missing.

In some cases a Play Grade may be included in the description, and for any item that is not play graded one can be requested, we can play sections of a record to let you know how it sounds.

For records with Small Defects, the grading is probably always M or NM+, they are like new records (sometimes even sealed), and their respective defects or faults will be explained in the item description and clearly visible in the item photos.
