Colorful, powerful, and elegant. Kiyoshi Sugimoto, a master of the era, is a watershed masterpiece that includes "before then" and "after that".
Since turning professional in 1960, Kiyoshi Sugimoto has been active in many sessions and recordings. From the latter half of the 1960s, he joined groups such as Hideo Shiraki, Akira Ishikawa, and Terumasa Hino, gaining attention and solidifying his position with leader works such as "Country Dream" and "Babylonia Wind." This work was recorded with Akira Ishikawa, Hiromasa Suzuki, Takao Uematsu, and others right after studying in America for about a year. Starting with the groovy and luscious "Our Time" and "Marmalade Sky", the mysterious keyboards flying around "Jones Street", and the melancholic and beautiful "Quiet Pulse", it can be said that it is a gap between jazz rock and fusion. There are attractive songs. This work represents Sugimoto's work in the mid-1970s.
Kiyoshi Sugimoto's Our Time is a pristine example of mid-70s Japanese jazz funk, led by Sugimoto's dexterous guitar lines bobbing and weaving over the nimble playing from a crack team of players. Amongst the ensemble is Akira Okazawa on drums, Masaoki Terakawa on bass, Hideo Ichikawa on Rhodes and Takao Uematsu on sax. From frenetic freakouts like the title track to the sublime chill of 'Jones Street' and on to the squidgy groove of 'Take My Blues!!', this is a many-sided album that is simply essential for anyone who takes their jazz funk seriously.
